Gail Amsterdam

Born into a family legacy of fashion, Gail Amsterdam developed a unique savvy of retail from an early age, building on decades of fashion evolution.  Jack Amsterdam, the founder of Amsterdam, Inc., was a prominent couturier and a member of the "Our Crowd" entrepreneurs of the early 20th Century.  Operating from 7th Avenue, his fashion expertise fitted Heads of State and designed Calvin Coolidge's Wife's Inaugural Dress (permanently on display at the Smithsonian).  Connecting closely with her Grandfather's design/merchandising flair and fashion fit, brands were born.  Ms. Amsterdam intuitively comprehended the right culture and executive fit, as if it were couture; "The fit is the goal; whether in couture or talent, the fit needs to be perfect".  Whether pins and needles or digital transformation, Gail has her finger on the pulse of where our industry is going.

A natural entrepreneur and problem solver, Ms. Amsterdam is a prolific writer with an innate ability to spot and secure executive talent.  Leveraging a curated database of extraordinary contacts to quickly fill C-Suite searches, Amsterdam Associates radar is focused in securing the perfect fit for high potential executives in this transformative digital era.  Gail has cultivated this coterie as the next generation of talent who will lead tomorrow's retail exchange.

Formerly, a senior partner & shareholder in a global executive search firm for over 12 years, Ms. Amsterdam headed the National Retail, Supply Chain, and Information Systems/Digital Practices of the Firm.  Earlier career experiences include having functioned as a manager in the National Executive Search Practice for KPMG.  She began her career advancing in a number of human resources roles in recruitment, organizational consulting, and labor relations for RCA and National Can Corporations.  Ms. Amsterdam holds an MBA from Baruch College and a BA cum laude from The University of Colorado, with a major in psychology.  She supports sustainability, philanthropy and is an avid skier and golfer.
