Head of E-Commerce

Kroger is on a mission to build the best online grocery shopping experience in the industry.

The head of e-commerce will work with merchandising, product experience and enterprise leadership teams to develop a robust e-commerce growth strategy, drive profitable growth, and scale the business, leveraging all Kroger assets and underlying technology. You'll define, establish and communicate operational best practices and ensure adherence to digital and merchandising guidelines. You'll also be asked to drive and manage a team of high-performing associates to achieve digital objectives while demonstrating the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

Role Description:

  • Work with senior leaders to set and drive e-commerce growth strategy for the enterprise
  • Lead every aspect of the of the e-commerce go-to-market strategy
  • Assume accountability for the success of initiatives, including achievement of financial and sales/profit goals based on market trends/competitive activity
  • Lead partnerships across merchandising/replenishment to incorporate digital merchandising strategies to achieve financial measures that engage merchandising, replenishment and marketing departments with increased accountability
  • Evaluate price strategy and ensure profitability guidelines given cost to serve e-commerce channel
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners in marketing, merchandising, product development, technology and 84.51 to ensure alignment and clear lines of accountability
  • Lead the demand planning and purchasing team, managing e-commerce carrying costs, turn, expirations, bounce, splits, sales and operating plan, and open-to-buy process
  • Oversee item set-up process from end to end, including operational spend for e-commerce
  • Create financial forecast marketing and promotional plan, forecast for digital, and operating the business to ensure key milestones and financial targets are met
  • Lead the development and execution of digital merchandising/operational standards
  • Lead partnerships with merchandising analytics to incorporate customer insights into key decision-making processes
  • Lead and create digital merchandising standardization from reporting, to product detail page, through item data
  • Lead, train and provide transparency to the greater enterprise on e-commerce solutions that enable online product sale and digitally influenced in-store sales
  • Drive the merchandising product road map through technology to improve customer path to purchase


  • 10 years of experience in direct-to-consumer retail e-commerce
  • Stellar track record of building and executing robust business plans
  • Self-starter who can excel in a fluid environment with ability to balance multiple projects and priorities at a time
  • Demonstrated ability to drive insightful analysis and complex projects with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus among cross-functional teams and influence decision making within senior-level audiences
  • Excellent communication and presentation (written and oral) skills
  • Exceptional executor, with extraordinary focus on details, accuracy and quality
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain a network of relationships which facilitate the partnership development process and decision making
  • Practical business sense with the ability to translate between strategic business decisions and their operational implications
  • Proven ability to lead, train and motivate a team and the ability to develop others


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • MBA is strongly preferred
