Job Description

What’s the role?

We are looking for a Senior Director, Global Marketing Operation to create and execute on a vision for the future of Etsy’s Marketing Operations function.

As the Senior Director of Global Marketing Operations, you will champion collaboration and communication, love a clear brief and a good RACI, and get fired up about budgets. You will be comfortable with frequent context-switching: going from scoping complex initiatives to mentoring project managers to representing the Marketing Team in cross-functional meetings. Operations is a discipline that requires a home to cultivate this craft and develop a vision for the future. The Senior Director of Global Marketing Operations will bring this under one roof - operating as a shared service to the rest of Marketing.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. Learn more about our flexible work options and vaccination policy here.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

  • Global Marketing Operations is a new yet crucial element of Etsy’s Marketing Team, responsible for Creative Operations (Brand) and Marketing Operations in the US and internationally. All marketing execution that reaches our fantastic community of buyers and sellers flows through this team.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Marketing Operations: Driving operations and execution for Marketing moments, including influencer campaigns, integrated marketing campaigns (e.g., Mother’s Day, Etsy Design Awards), and TV briefing. Owns operations strategy for the Marketing Org across multiple countries and functions.
  • Creative Operations: Driving creative budgeting, planning, and execution for TV production, photoshoots, integrated marketing experiences, lifecycle campaigns, and educational content supporting product launches.
  • Responsible for building a relatively new function in the Marketing Org through defining a vision and staffing and mentoring the team to execute against that vision.
  • Proactively identifies systemic operational gaps to prioritize investments (e.g., a project management system/tool that spans across all teams and countries, mapping an end-to-end process and working with teams to bring it to life)
  • Leads campaign operations and program management for the Marketing Org - ensures “the trains run on time” through well-sequenced and paced plans. Includes managing teams that drive resource (time and budget) planning, project management, and stakeholder reporting. Builds systems and infrastructure to monitor Marketing capacity across the org to improve the ability to project demand vs. capacity and enable project prioritization.
  • Leads campaign and capacity planning - ensures “the train schedule is accessible and understood” to senior leadership (VPs and CMO). This includes elevating capacity constraints that would impact execution against the Marketing strategy.
  • Ensures that marketing operations align with marketing priorities and strategy (“the right trains are leaving the station”) through frequent dialogue and prioritization with leadership.
  • Leads a team of project managers focused on Creative and Marketing operations. Responsible for cultivating the craft of operations within Etsy Marketing.
  • Introduces industry best practices to the Marketing org to improve operating efficiency
  • Builds a strong working relationship with Marketing leadership and partners.
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in both production and project management of integrated digital marketing campaigns across all media
  • 3+ years of people management experience. Specifically managing project managers in a direct report capacity.
  • Experience setting up a Global Marketing Operations team and function in a Tech company
  • Experience working with C-Suite, CMO, and/or marketing executive team to ensure brand and marketing strategy are mapped to the day-to-day ops, pointing out risks and opportunities when and if they arise.
  • Experience in building, evangelizing, and adapting processes in highly agile workstreams
  • Natural ability to know when to show flexibility or stand your ground in the face of process challenges
  • Experience partnering with teams for the entire project lifecycle: from briefing to execution to retro
  • Deep knowledge of Marketing campaign processes from start to finish.
  • Highly organized and detail-obsessed, able to calmly prioritize multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Proactive, clear communicator and problem solver
  • Consistent record of managing operations for multidisciplinary teams with a range of skill levels
  • Ability to thrive in a multifaceted, feedback-forward environment
  • Internationally experienced, with a Global first mindset.
  • A trust in and commitment to Etsy’s vision, mission and values.
