In this episode of Women in Retail Talks, Women in Retail Leadership Circle Senior Content Strategist Ashley Chiaradio interviews Sabina Khan, founder of Planet Nature, a U.K.-based sustainable online lifestyle retailer offering solely fair trade products made from locally sourced natural materials. Khan discusses Planet Nature’s brand ethos and business model (0:55), how the company only operates with clean eco-manufacturing (2:02), and the sustainable materials used for the products sold on its site (4:36).

In addition, Khan shares why responsible consumerism is essential to ensuring safe working conditions for factory workers (7:41), why plastic pollution is a global issue (9:47), and how the COVID-19 pandemic called attention to faults in the retail supply chain and poor treatment of overseas factory workers (11:09). Lastly, Khan discusses how launching Planet Nature taught her a lot about herself (13:39), why brands that are transparent about supply chain and sustainability will be the most successful (16:45), and the retail and fashion trends she’s predicting for 2021 (17:35).

Sabina Khan is the founder of Planet Nature, an online retailer for home storage, holiday, market and cycle baskets, and yoga mat bags. The business prides itself on quality, its use of eco materials and a commitment to its people. Before starting Planet Nature, Sabina started and ran an e-commerce recruitment business from her kitchen with very little investments. She managed search and selection for multi-million-pound businesses in manufacturing. Sabina studied law and has always focused on housing, welfare, and workers’ rights. As a fair trade and climate change activist, she wanted her next venture to focus on giving back to these communities. That, combined with her interest in raw materials and manufacturing, led to the creation of Planet Nature.
