Women in Retail Leadership Circle (WIRLC) members often share book recommendations in peer groups, on panels, and during networking events. When spotlighting these powerhouse women, we like to ask them, “What is the best book you’ve read recently?” Here are some responses from the past few months to serve as inspiration for your next read.
“I re-read ‘Radical Candor‘ by Kim Scott and fell in love with it all over again. Another one I found is called ‘Abundant Ever After‘ by Cathy Heller. I love the idea of manifestation and positive thinking, and it was a fresh spin on that. It has become my recent favorite.” — Karrie Helm, Senior Director of Stores, EVEREVE
“’When Women Ran 5th Avenue‘ by Julie Satow. So wonderful [and educational] to read about strong women that were pioneers in our industry and to see how they navigated a male-dominated culture. Very relevant today!” — Molly Taylor, Senior Vice President, Merchandising, Fashion, Editorial and Marketplace, Rue Gilt Groupe
“The best book I read recently was actually recommended to me by our CEO at Dollar Tree. The book is ‘Unreasonable Hospitality,’ written by Will Guidara. In the book, Will talks about providing a level of unreasonable hospitality to your customers and employees. What he essentially says in the book is that your customers and employees should feel like VIPs. The level of customer service should be so high that it tests the limits of reasonableness.” — Jessica Thomas, Chief Culture and Belonging Officer, Senior Special Counsel, Dollar Tree
“’Man’s Search for Meaning‘ by Viktor E. Frankl. Though not a new book, it offers a profound exploration of human resilience and the pursuit of meaning in life.” — Lisa Troup, Buying Director, Cosmetics, Macy’s
