As someone who tries to live a zero-waste lifestyle, I’m so encouraged when I see brands going the extra mile to provide a sustainable or reusable option to their customers. And it turns out, so are a lot of other consumers. A National Retail Federation study from earlier this year found that 50 percent of respondents say they’re willing to pay a premium for sustainability.

But what’s the value to the brands and companies that are considering putting re-commerce practices in place and becoming part of the ever-growing circular economy? And how do you go about creating a profitable circular business model in the first place?

Four re-commerce experts are joining Women in Retail Leadership Circle and Total Retail’s next Virtual Exchange on Aug. 18 to discuss what opportunities exist for brands to make a meaningful splash in today’s circular economy.

Attendees will hear from:

  • Nellie Cohen, the founder of BALEEN, a consultancy focused on building circular product systems for brands that are designed to reduce environmental footprint while generating revenue;
  • Carmen Gama, director of circular design at Eileen Fisher, which has taken back over 1.5 million pieces of clothing since 2009 to be resold, donated or remade into new designs;
  • Eileen Mockus, CEO and president of Coyuchi, whose renewing and recycling linen program reduces the need for raw materials by keeping them out of landfills and giving them a second home; and
  • Jackie Rogers Borker, senior director of thredUP’s Resale-as-a-Service program, which partners with brands to launch resale shops.

Also part of the Virtual Exchange program, Vera Bradley president Daren Hull will be interviewed about the company’s culture and traditions that make it a top employer for diversity, and Lisa McKnight, executive vice president and global head of Barbie and dolls at Mattel, will speak about the company’s efforts to make more inclusive toys, as well as its entrance into the metaverse.

The Virtual Exchange is free and interactive! Mark your calendars and secure your spot today by registering.
