Mattel made news this past week when it announced a new line of inclusive, diverse Barbie dolls. The toymaker finally relented to decades of criticism over the doll’s unrealistic (read: ultra thin, busty, thin-waisted and long-legged) and homogeneous looks.
The new Barbies, dubbed the Fashionista line, feature four different body types, seven skin tones, 22 eye colors and 24 hairstyles.
“We believe we have a responsibility to girls and parents to reflect a broader view of beauty,” said Evelyn Mazzocco, Barbie global general manager and Mattel senior vice president, in this Forbes article.
