Women in Retail Leadership Circle (WIRLC) members often share book recommendations in peer groups, on panels and during networking events. When spotlighting these powerhouse women, we like to ask them, “What is the best book you’ve read recently?” In time for Book Lovers Day on Aug. 9, here are some responses from the past few months to serve as inspiration for your own next read.
- I just finished “Money, Power, Respect: How Women in Sports Are Shaping the Future of Feminism“, and it’s all about how women in sports are leading the fight for equality. I recommend it to anyone and everyone, especially women trying to go up the corporate ladder. — Elyse Dickerson, CEO and Co-Founder, Eosera Inc.
- I recently read “Unreasonable Hospitality” by Will Guidara, who was the general manager of the famous Eleven Madison Park restaurant in New York City. In the book, Guidara details how the team thought through the entire customer journey in order to create “unreasonable” hospitality and ultimately become one of the top 50 restaurants in the world. It was a really fascinating and insightful read, and that pursuit of excellence was inspiring as we at Cinemark are refining the customer experience at our theaters. — Wanda Gierhart Fearing, Global Chief Marketing and Content Officer, Cinemark
- “Chess Not Checkers: Elevate Your Leadership Game”. It keeps you in check with how you’re leading and discusses strategic leadership principles to help your team thrive in dynamic environments. — Megan Murray, Senior Director, Field Operations, Ulta Beauty
- “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” by Rachel Wells is one of my all-time favorite books. It’s been a while since I first read it. It’s probably time to pick it up again! — Mara Sirhal, Chief Merchandising Officer, QVC US, Qurate Retail Group
- “Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office” by Lois P. Frankel — Yasaman Stewart, Director of Marketing, Friendly’s Restaurants
