Today is International Day of Friendship, a global observance introduced by the United Nations to promote peace, understanding and connection among people across cultures and borders. At Women in Retail Leadership Circle (WIRLC), we see this as more than just a day on the calendar — it’s a reminder of what truly makes our community thrive.

While our mission is to unite, inspire and empower executive women across the retail industry, the real engine behind our success is the relationships formed along the way. These aren’t just professional connections; they often grow into genuine friendships built on shared experiences, common goals, and a desire to see each other succeed.

I’ve seen so many connections formed since we created this community. For example, through our quarterly peer group calls, where someone is always willing to workshop an issue or offer suggestions on the latest technology; at our regional On the Road events, where women share insights and engaging content; and at our annual Summit, where old friends reunite and new friendships are formed.

What happens in those spaces goes beyond typical networking — they’re openings for real conversation, authentic support, and lasting friendships. So this week, I encourage you to check in with a fellow member, share advice, or make a new introduction. Reconnect with someone you’ve met through Women in Retail Leadership Circle, or take the first step in getting to know someone new. You never know where a conversation might lead.

If you’re not yet a member of Women in Retail Leadership Circle, this is a great time to get involved. You’ll gain access to a dynamic group of executive women and find friendships that last far beyond the next event or email thread.
