Brieane Olson, a Women in Retail Leadership Circle (WIRLC) board member, was named the sole CEO of the California-inspired lifestyle brand PacSun earlier this month, assuming the position that was previously assigned as a dual role between herself and co-CEO Mike Relich.
Olson was appointed to the co-CEO role in March after previously serving as president for two years. Prior to that, she was the company’s chief brand officer and chief merchandising officer, and has served in various other roles within the company in her 17-year tenure there.
Relich will retire as co-CEO and remain on PacSun’s board as vice chairman. The leadership changes go into effect June 15.
Since March, Olson has been responsible for leading PacSun’s brand strategy, including spearheading the company’s latest collaboration with Formula 1 at the Miami Grand Prix; launching PS Reserve, a custom curated retail platform; opening a slate of new stores in premier locations; and establishing a new feedback channel between store staff and PacSun’s buying and design teams. During her tenure with PacSun, she introduced the company’s first gender-neutral collection, Colour Theory, and oversaw its entry into the kid’s category with PacSun Kids.
A press release from PacSun noted that Olson continues to guide the company’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence and metaverse initiatives, as well as key partnerships with cultural powerhouses including Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Emma Chamberlain, and Storm Reid.
In a statement, Olson called PacSun a “cultural force on the forefront of fashion, music and sports. It’s a privilege to work beside our talented team to bring the best brands, curated products and most innovative collaborations to our community of passionate young people around the world.”
