Hipcamp and REI have partnered once again for the Outdoor Journal Tour’s #WeHikeToHeal project to encourage mindful exercise outdoors during Mental Health Awareness Month in May. Exclusive to women, the #WeHikeToHeal project, which began May 1 and runs through May 31, connects likeminded women and creates a space of community during this tumultuous time for so many.

Hipcamp encourages people to get outside by providing options to get away to a secluded spot. REI is able to suit you up for your outdoor adventure, selling primarily outdoor gear. Together with Outdoor Journal Tour, an organization created to motivate people to appreciate and explore nature, these brands are ready to host an amazing, mindful getaway for those women who need it.

The COVID-19 pandemic left us cooped up at home for an indefinite amount of time. The mental health of many deteriorated fast, especially for women. As work moved to remote, many more women juggled the responsibility of being a mother as well as a full-time employee. A poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that 53 percent of women reported that the pandemic had a major impact on their mental health.

With research suggesting that getting outside for even a short period of time every day can help improve your mental health, the #WeHikeToHeal project is geared towards women on a path of self-growth and guides them to a mindful end. The initiative offers a weekly guided group hike, along with access to daily guided meditations and journaling inspiration. Participants face weekly challenges and have opportunities for group hikes and expeditions.

The #WeHiketoHeal project culminates with a overnight campout at one of Hipcamp’s sites, BoMax Ranch, a Black-owned ranch in Crawfordsville, GA with all amenities included. The retreat is held between May 28-30. REI will provide camping and outdoor gear for participants during the group events.

“The #WeHikeToHeal initiative is an incredible opportunity to help people experience the healing power of the outdoors,” Jenny Avalos, REI program manager of inclusion marketing partnerships, said in a press release. “In continuing our work with Hipcamp and Outdoor Journal Tour, we can encourage more women to turn to nature to bring solace and comfort into their lives.”

As the sun begins to warm us up, consider joining the campaign to get out and moving. Hipcamp is also providing a lucky participant with an all-expenses-paid scholarship to the initiative’s retreat.

With varying degrees of the challenge, participants can choose to register for the ULTIMATE CHALLENGER Registration, CHALLENGER Registration, or COMMUNITY Registration. The prices vary from $0-$25, with different amenities included for each option.
