September is Hispanic Heritage Month, and it’s the perfect time to identify brands and retailers that are celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx Americans, as well as elevate businesses owned by Hispanic and Latinx Americans. Here are a few retailers and brands marking the occasion, which runs from Sept. 15-Oct. 15:

  • Macy’s launched a special roundup and donation campaign in-store and online on Sept. 15 to benefit Hispanic Federation, which works to empower and advance the Hispanic community in the areas of education, health, immigration, civic engagement, economic empowerment, and the environment. Additionally, the retailer is spotlighting up-and-coming Hispanic and Latinx-owned brands throughout the month.
  • Qurate Retail Group, which owns QVC, HSN and Zulily, put together curated National Hispanic Heritage Month collections on QVC and HSN. The collections feature a selection of Hispanic and Latinx-owned brands and entrepreneurs. Qurate Retail Group is also making a $100,000 donation to Hispanic Federation, and 15 Hispanic and Latinx-owned business owners will share their brand stories live on air on QVC and HSN, as well as be featured on Zulily’s website.
  • Old Navy partnered with Brazilian artist and illustrator Camila Rose to create a graphic T-shirt honoring Hispanic Heritage Month. Old Navy is also donating $500,000 to 15 Percent Pledge, a nonprofit organization that holds companies accountable for supporting Black-owned brands.
  • Barbie and its parent company, Mattel, unveiled the 2022 Día de Muertos collectible Barbie doll at the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.
  • Target launched a Latino Heritage Month collection featuring more than 90 Latinx-owned, designed or founded products, including apparel, accessories, books, movies, music, games, food and more.
  • Kohl’s launched a sub-brand of its private-label flagship brand called Sonoma Community that offers product collections that celebrate inclusion and diversity. The brand’s first collection, launched in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, features apparel and products that reflect Hispanic and Latino culture and diversity.
  • Central Market will feature Hispanic-owned wines, cheeses and other gourmet offerings throughout Hispanic Heritage Month in certain stores. It will also host a series of virtual cooking classes featuring the stories and recipes of notable Hispanic chefs and makers.

This month, let’s make a habit to incorporate celebrating and shopping at underrepresented brands and businesses into our personal values. Let me know how you’re celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, and how you’re planning to continue elevating Hispanic and Latinx Americans in retail.
