Mary Ellen Coyne, most recently the CEO of J.McLaughlin, was named the CEO and president of women’s apparel retailer J.Jill on Feb. 27, replacing Claire Spofford, who is retiring at the end of April.
Coyne, a Women in Retail Leadership Circle (WIRLC) member, has over three decades of experience in the retail sector. At J.McLaughlin, she successfully revitalized the brand and drove significant growth in sales and profitability over her almost decade-long tenure in the role. Under her leadership, the company expanded its retail footprint, enhanced its e-commerce capabilities, elevated product, and entered new product categories.
Prior to J.McLaughlin, Coyne held various executive roles during her 15 years at Ralph Lauren, including chief merchandising officer of women’s and children’s.
“I am honored to join J.Jill at such a pivotal time in its journey,” said Coyne in a press release. “J.Jill’s commitment to providing high-quality, versatile apparel that resonates with the consumer aligns perfectly with my passion for creating meaningful customer experiences. I’m excited to work with the talented team at J.Jill to continue building on the brand’s strong heritage and drive its future growth.”
Headquartered outside of Boston, J.Jill operates over 200 stores nationwide.
