This Friday, Aug. 26, is Women’s Equality Day, which celebrates the importance of the women’s suffrage movement; the work to secure and expand equal rights in America; and the certification of 19th Amendment back in 1920. This day honors all the rights and freedoms that women have fought for and gained over the years, but also illuminates the many struggles women still face today. While this can feel discouraging, there are many ways we as individuals can continue to advocate for women’s advancement. I love this blog post suggesting 11 ways that leaders can celebrate Women’s Equality Day at work, and support women employees all year. A few of the ideas listed in the blog include:
- Support a local, female-owned business (even better, support a fellow WIRLC member’s business!).
- Give a shout-out to women team members and leaders making an impact at your company.
- Launch a women’s mentorship program (WIRLC members can use the Membership Directory to connect with others and give or receive mentorship).
Looking for another unique way to celebrate Women’s Equality Day this year? Nominate a 2023 Top Woman in Retail! Take a moment to recognize the incredible women around you and their achievements in the retail industry. Submit your favorite women leaders who meet the following award qualifications:
- 2023 Top Women in Retail nominees must be in a C-suite position or serving as president, and a current employee at a retail organization.
- 2023 Women on the Rise nominees must be a director, younger than 40, and a current employee at a retail organization.
We want your input! Submit nominations until Sept. 30 via our survey here.
So how will you be celebrating Women’s Equality Day? We want to hear about it! Share what you’re doing at the office and at home, and tag Women in Retail on social media so our community can celebrate your actions.
