The way we work is changing, and so is what comes next for experienced leaders. For many women, the next chapter isn’t necessarily another full-time executive role. It might be fractional leadership, consulting, advisory work or some combination of the three.

However, making that transition can come with a lot of questions. What exactly do you want to offer? How do you communicate your value when you’re no longer defined by a title or company? And how do you build your personal brand and find the right opportunities when you’re essentially marketing yourself?

Those questions will be at the heart of an upcoming Next Chapter Sessions virtual event from Women in Retail Leadership Circle. On Friday, Sept. 25 at 12 p.m. ET, members are invited to join “Becoming a Fractional Leader: Building and Marketing Your Next Chapter.” The session will feature Kate Sargent, founder of KJS Coaching and Consulting, who will lead a practical, interactive conversation about making the shift from employee to independent expert.

Sargent will cover the pieces that can be challenging when you’re building a new professional identity, including defining your offering, communicating your value, building your personal brand, and marketing yourself to potential clients. The goal isn’t simply to talk about what a fractional or consulting career can look like, but to give attendees practical ways to start building one.

Attendees will walk away with:

  • A better understanding of the opportunities available in fractional, consulting and advisory work.
  • Practical guidance on defining and communicating their value.
  • Ideas for building a personal brand that reflects their expertise.
  • Strategies for marketing themselves and connecting with potential clients.
  • New connections with other experienced leaders thinking about what comes next.

The Next Chapter Sessions is a members-only virtual series designed to help women navigate career transitions with clarity, confidence and community. Each session combines expert insight with peer discussion in a supportive, judgment-free environment where members can share experiences, exchange ideas, and support one another through periods of professional change and growth.
