Total Retail, sister publication of Women in Retail Leadership Circle, recently released its 2018 Salary Benchmark Report.

The report features salary data from Total Retail’s audience of retail executives, representing organizations of all sizes and product verticals. The survey data was analyzed based upon a number of variables, including age, title, company size (measured by annual revenue), geographic region and gender. Some of the report’s more interesting findings included a look at the differences in salary and total compensation between genders.

The chart above features respondents’ total annual compensation (base salary plus any other financial benefits) segmented by gender. Much like other industries, retail isn’t exempt from the gender wage gap. Of the retail executives polled, women made, on average, $11,071 less than their male counterparts.

The bright spot for women retail executives comes in the form of an annual compensation above and beyond base salary (e.g., bonuses, commissions, stock options, etc.). Women received, on average, $3,445 more in non-salary compensation last year than men. However, I’m sure we can all agree it’s a long way to go from where it needs to be.

Total Retail’s 2018 Salary Benchmark Report was produced under the direction of Nathan Safran, director of research at NAPCO Media, parent company of Total Retail and Women in Retail Leadership Circle. For more retail salary data, you can download the report here.
