In this episode of Women in Retail Talks, Senior Content Strategist Ashley Chiaradio speaks with Risa Barash, co-founder of Fairy Tales Hair Care, the leading line of professional hair care for children providing affordable, high-quality natural products. Listen in as Barash speaks about her career journey from comedian to brand founder, taking her place as a fourth-generation entrepreneur and the first woman entrepreneur in her family. She explains how her husband identified a need for a professional line of children’s hair care products to prevent lice, and Fairy Tales Hair Care launched with three products that addressed this white space.

In addition, Barash discusses the company’s recent launch of TBH, a brand for tween children between the ages of eight and 12 years old, after she identified space in the market for hair, face and body care products for this niche age group. She shares how her teenage daughter created the name for the product line, and how the brand targets both parents and children in its marketing efforts. Barash explains that TBH is currently developing a subscription-based commerce offering, and plans to launch this service in early 2020. Lastly, she discusses her struggle to find mentors while building the brand, how that drives her to mentor young entrepreneurial women today, and her plans for Fairy Tales Hair Care’s growth in 2020 and beyond.

Risa Barash is an experienced co-founder with a demonstrated history of working in the consumer goods industry, with strong skills in beauty, retail, business development, marketing strategy, and hair care. During the last decade, Barash and her husband and co-founder, Robert, built a multinational company and raised two amazing kids, Jack and Ava. She always credits her background as a stand-up comic when asked how she can find the humor in her new role as lice expert. You can only imagine how a little comic relief (and a glass of chardonnay) can go a long way when dealing with a lice outbreak!
