In this episode of Women in Retail Talks, Women in Retail Leadership Circle Co-Founder Melissa Campanelli interviews Angie Brown, executive vice president and chief information officer at The Home Depot. The episode was recorded at Shoptalk this March in Las Vegas. Brown recounts her 27-year rise from entry-level developer to CIO, driven by taking on complex, unfamiliar challenges and learning as she progressed in her career (1:20). She explains that as she moved from technical roles to enterprise strategy, she kept the same focus: start with customer and associate needs, then apply technology at scale with cross-functional teams (3:30). Brown highlights empathy, continuous skill growth, and a “figure it out” mindset (6:40) as keys to her career success.

Additionally, Brown describes The Home Depot’s interconnected retail model, where more than half of online orders are fulfilled or picked up in-store, and shares pilots of in-store generative AI for maps and inventory (7:45). She outlines AI opportunities in customer inspiration, delivery optimization, and communication (9:40), and encourages women leaders to choose grace over perfection, embrace uncertainty, and trust their ability to learn and lead (14:15).

Angie Brown is executive vice president and chief information officer of The Home Depot. In this role, she is responsible for all aspects of the company’s technology strategy, software development, cybersecurity and infrastructure for The Home Depot’s more than 2,300 retail stores, supply chain facilities, store support centers and online systems.

Prior to being named EVP and CIO, Angie served as senior vice president of information technology. She and her team were responsible for developing solutions for merchandising, online, customer, marketing, pro and supply chain functions. Angie started her career at The Home Depot as an associate systems engineer in 1998, and has held roles of increasing responsibility since then within the technology organization. Angie was honored as the 2022 Woman of the Year in Technology by Women in Technology (WIT).
